Dumbledore’s Army

I embroidered a new badge for my growing collection, this time a little Dumbledore’s Army one (from Harry Potter). I’ve tried a new picture idea below, I think I like it! It was hard to take because my hands were shaking a little, but I like the difference in focus.

Because this badge is smaller than the others I’ve made, I used a different pin backing, made from an old stud earring squished between the front and back of the badge.

You can see how small it is compared to one of Sarah’s books.

This is the chapter in Order of the Phoenix where the DA (as it’s abbreviated to) is formed.

Look how tiny! I’m in love! I put it on a plain muslin background to give the impression of parchment, as the original list of members is written on parchment at their first meeting. The wider ends are meant to look like inconsistencies from writing with a quill, though I’m not sure how effective they were.

Would you join Dumbledore’s Army? I probably would!

Anyways, see ya!

Cashing In

Naturally, being a bookstore, Flourish & Blotts needs a counter for visitors to adopt books from.

The middle shelf is filled with notebooks, because using parchment all the time seems a bit ridiculous to me. Besides, there might be Muggle-borns who visit and just want notebooks for schoolwork.

The bottom shelf lifts out (once the textbooks are removed!) to reveal storage for the display book covers. I’m quite happy with this, as it’s completely inconspicuous until you know about it. I suppose that means a spy could hide something important in here…

I also made a little cash register with a tiny keyboard. That keyboard nearly made me go cross-eyed!

I might still make a freestanding bookshelf for the store, and I have ideas about a possible reading nook too, with a similar atmosphere to the Gryffindor common room.

And of course, more books are always in need. 😀

Anyways, see ya!

Books in the Windows

You know those windows I mentioned, at the front of Flourish & Blotts?

They’re window displays.

On the reverse of these displays, there are two rows of shelves for new releases, which may also house popular releases. Eventually.

The little book covers are stuck onto thin cardboard and blu-tacked onto the various displays. I made a heap of them, so there’s plenty of variety.

The displays can slide in and out of the windows from inside the shop, so they can change as the seasons change. The new releases wouldn’t normally be facing out, I just don’t have more than one display at the moment.

If you have any recommendations for books for display, feel free to comment! The next batch of covers may be a while away, as I like to fill half a page or so before printing, because they are so small.

Anyways, see ya!

Sarah by the Sea

As it’s currently the middle of summer here, Sarah and I needed a little break from crafting so we went to the beach.

We got ice cream (as you do when at the coast), and wandered down to a picnic table near the shore.

The beach was near a marina, so there were plenty of boats coming and going.

All in all, it was a welcome break in the sun for both of us, and a breath of fresh air.

What do you guys do when in need of a break? I usually just read a book, but a day trip is occasionally needed!

Anyways, see ya!

Flourishing Blotts

The front of Flourish & Blotts is finished, with a hand-lettered sign.

I wrote out the shop name by hand because none of the fonts on my computer had the flourish I wanted underneath the R in Flourish.

Inside’s coming along as well.

This is one of the shelves of books for sale, you can see Sarah’s drawn like a magnet!

This wall will be behind the counter, and will have noticeboards for new releases, and a little bit of bookish merch as well. I still need to do one more wall of books, as well as putting the floor down and baseboards on the walls.

What are you all up to recently?

Anyways, see ya!
